What is the average price of a house extension?

House extensions vary in price massively as it all depends on how long the extension will take, the size of the extension, the type of house extension and materials being used. Therefore, it is very difficult to give an average figure. However, to calculate a rough guide as to how much your extension will cost, you can budget between £1,250 - £2,500 per square metre.
What size house extension can I build without planning permission?

As of 2022, the permitted development rules mean that you can extend your home up to 6 metres, or 8 metres if you own a detached house, without having to obtain planning permission.
Can you live in a house during an extension?

Depending on the scope of work, sometimes living in your house during your extension isn’t an option. However, in most cases it is possible, you will just need to put up with a little dust and mess in your life!
