           Today there are an estimated 477,000 electric cars (EVs) on the road in the UK and more than 790,000 plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).

           The growth of the EV market is expected to accelerate in the coming years as the UK prepares itself for the 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel vehicle sales. However, following big investment in the UK’s charging infrastructure, we think there has never been a better time to buy a new or used EV.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           Are you considering making the switch?

            Whilst there are a growing number of EV charging locations across the UK, you'll need to get your hands on an Electric charging point. In some cases, Government funding is available: up to -

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           £500 for domestic installations, £300 for commercial installations.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Unless you’re an electrician with experience in installing EV chargers, don’t do it yourself. Always hire an experienced and certified installer. This might prove to be more expensive in the short-term, but it’s vital for making sure your charger is properly and safely installed and that you comply with all regulations. Furthermore, some EV charging points will lose their warranty, if not installed by a certified electrician. You don’t want to risk that. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

         We were approached to create student accommodation at Milton House, which had an excess of unused space in the building just waiting to be transformed.

          There was an overhanging section of Milton House which, at the time, wasn’t being used for anything - it was wasted space in the building’s design. So we took that space and converted it into two remarkably spacious flats perfect for student accommodation.

The apartments were designed to be modern and make the best use of the available space.          We’ve done a lot of work for the luxurious Cafe Brera, and the work we’ve done is spread across three separate locations, including the company’s flagship in Canary Wharf. However, it’s the work we’ve done to connect the company across its variety of locations that we want to talk about today.

          Hughes Group were approached to help construct the CPU for Cafe Brera - that’s the Central Processing Unit - a single, massive kitchen space designed to act as the central point where everything is made and then distributed out to the different locations.     Cadogan Lane required an enormous property refurbishment, which involves work from the basement all the way to the roof of the property. One of the biggest undertakings involved in the refurbishment was the installation of a brand new kitchen, which meant we had to completely remove the old one before installing anything new.

    As you can see from the images, when it came to installing the kitchen we started entirely from scratch. We installed brand new cupboards, lighting and even an entirely new floor to help bring the room to life. Stylish black marble countertops were brought in to give the kitchen a sophisticated, modern look and overall we were very pleased with the transformation of the room. Of course, the kitchen wasn’t the only room we worked on. During the process of the full refurbishment, we also modernised the bathrooms, turning them into beautiful, personal rooms with a contemporary look and feel.

We’re very proud to have helped bring the brand to life here in the UK. Our refurbishment of the shop also included the panelling on the exterior of the shop as well as we helped to create a high street presence for Sergent Major.     Some things are better left untouched. Unfortunately, that isn’t always a possibility. Some of our favourite buildings are the ones with a lot of history, the ones that haven’t been lived in for some time. Seven Pines mansion in Virginia Water was abandoned by its previous owners, Bryan Forbes and his wife. When Forbes passed away in the house in 2013, his wife left the house and it has remained empty to this day. What’s so special about the mansion however is the way that memory is preserved - although empty, it remains almost immaculately furnished.
  
                  
                  
  
    

  
    
      
    
                    
                    
    Or at least, it was. Due to the building’s abandonment gaining widespread, mainstream attention throughout the internet, people have continued to arrive at the building and break in. Such break-ins are recorded and uploaded to YouTube for the world to see, incentivising others to do the same. Parties have been held in the mansion, and unfortunately the result is that the inside has become trashed over time. Electricity is still being fed to the mansion, so that only continues to draw more people to it. While it’s unfortunate that there doesn’t seem to be anything being done about the prevalence of the videos on YouTube, Hughes Group are looking to act.

    Because the mansion had been left in its original state, it’s been made incredibly easy to gain access through the windows. Hughes Group are planning a restoration project to barricade the windows in order to prevent people from entering unauthorised. We’ve since secured the building and are planning on fitting the windows with steel shutters, ensuring it’s impossible for unwanted guests to enter the building in the future.
  
                  
                  
  
    

  
    
      
    
                    
                    
    With this project, we wanted to bring this issue to light - this historical building is being wrecked over time thanks to people breaking in without permission, and in doing so, inviting others to do the same. The inside of the building is covered in rubbish and it’s only a matter of time before the historical beauty and uniqueness of the mansion is lost. Seven Pines has become something of a Virginia Water landmark, lost to time - at Hughes Group, we’re determined to see that it remains protected, at least until such a time where the future of the building is decided.

We check the gas appliances, including boilers, fires and hobs to ensure they’re all working correctly - being a gas safety registered company, we’re able to carry out these kinds of checks, and this constitutes a landlord’s certificate.     We’re also able to then make further checks, including PAT testing the appliances in the property. Some of the other checks we perform involve the wiring circuits - we check to ensure that everything is in complete working order, and we also check the fuseboards. Our checks are designed to ensure that everything is in place for a tenant to be able to move into a property with the peace of mind that everything works behind-the-scenes, while the landlord is confident that their property meets the necessary standards. Thanks to this and our pre-existing partnerships, the total number of Domino’s stores we now manage is over 60.     We look after the company’s refrigeration equipment, including their walk-in fridges and freezers, as well as their chilled make line areas. Domino’s stores keep product like pepperoni and cheese in specific, chilled areas where they assemble the pizza, so it’s imperative these areas remain at the correct temperature. We also monitor and look after the store’s ice cream machines. Alongside these services, we also provide maintenance for the air conditioning systems.     We were recently involved in a project with DHL, who were looking to try and save water at one of their sites. We recommended installing Propelair commercial toilets. The plan would be prototyped at this site and then rolled out to the remainder of DHL sites should it prove successful in saving water.
  
                  
                  
  
    

  
    
      
    
                    
                    
    Propelair’s unique, innovative water-saving system made it the ideal choice for DHL’s requirements. The toilets use just one litre of water per flush instead of the usual six, meaning that they would be saving five litres per every flush thanks to a smart combination of water and air. A large fan rotor inside the unit propels air down the toilet along with water to get rid of waste through the drainage. The use of propelled air eliminates the need for so much water, allowing DHL to save thousands of litres per day.
  
                  
                  
  
    

  
    
      
    
                    
                    
    Our involvement in the project was extensive. We stripped out all of the old toilets and installed the new Propelair ones, which included electrical supplies as every toilet utilises a 12 volt charge.     One of the aspects of our work we take the most pride in at Hughes Group is being able to create something from nothing, and overcome any design hurdles we might be faced with. When we were tasked with transforming Madame Posh from the ground up, we got to work.
  
                  
                  
  
    

  
    
      
    
                    
                    
    Initially we stripped the entire shop down to nothing. The space wasn’t originally Madame Posh, so it was a simple affair to start from the beginning. We took everything out of the original shop and disposed of it, leaving only a concrete shell behind with which to work with. The client provided us with extensive drawings to work with and from there we were able to begin work on bringing Madame Posh to life using our assortment of skills.

    The project was a complete shop refurbishment, so we worked on every aspect of the building. We installed a brand new air conditioning system into the building, as well as a warm air curtain. Along with this, our professional electricians completely rewired the electrical circuits and the lighting circuits. Our team also created and installed the beautiful chandeliers inside the shop. We then moved onto the actual infrastructure of the shop, installing the stairs, partitions and flooring. We installed the entire kitchen, including fridges, freezers, dishwashers and a pump system for the waste. The team also installed both male and female toilets as well as a disabled toilet, as well as the shop’s plumbing system, and a scuba tank pumped water system. The toilets included hand dryers, soap dispensers and vanity units.
  
                  
                  
  
    

  
    
      
    
                    
                    
    Our team then moved onto the shop’s visuals, wall-papering and decorating throughout. We installed the front windows and entrance as well as a projector. We helped to craft a design for the shop by installing a partition between the kitchen and the restaurant, as well as a lift and dumb waiter. We then installed the external signage and at this point, the restaurant was truly coming together. We installed a canopy to add a feature at the front of the shop, while ensuring it complied with the rules of Windsor Borough Council.     We were very excited to see one of our favourite transformation projects featured in Elle Deco - the stunning renovation of an old building into the River Arts Club boutique hotel.
  
                  
                  
  
    

  
    
      
    
                    
                    
    A Victorian mansion, this beautiful Grade II classified building was a joy for us to work on and watch evolve before our eyes. Built in the late nineteenth century, the residence was once home to a great art collector and has since been featured in numerous television shows and as the backdrop for several films. The house itself is considered a house of the arts, so when we renovated it, we wanted to not only respect and adhere to that history, but also help modernise it for the current day.

    When it came to our work on the project, we completely refurbished the entirety of the Grade II listed building over the course of 18 months. The hotel is comprised of 13 suites, a grand reception, a champagne room and a kitchen - but we also converted the basement plant room as well.  We made it a priority to help preserve that character and personality, allowing each room to stand on its own. The hotel is located in Maidenhead, and we made sure to complete all of the mechanical and electrical aspects and surveys, as well as install the entire heating system for the building.

      &lt;!--StartFragment--&gt;                                                                                          A key part of the project was the restoration of the entrance hall with the assistance of a specialist who helped us strip it back to nothing before we then rebuilt on top. To do so, we added lining paper to every wall before adding wallpaper. We also laid brand new carpets throughout the hotel as well. A number of revisions were made to the building to help it comply with fire regulations, and an alarm company was hired to fit the hotel with up-to-date systems. Along with this, a conservation officer was involved in the project to ensure that, being a listed building, the Oldfield’s historical importance and aspects remained preserved, which of course we adhered to.

The refurbishment of this home into a boutique hotel utilised all of our skills and we worked with a number of specialists to ensure the job was completed to the highest possible standard.

    We’re exceptionally proud of the work we’ve done helping to turn Oldfield into a fabulous boutique hotel. The building’s wonderful history has an artistic hub has been preserved, while helping to bring it into the modern age as a culturally significant hotel.     While the team were there to have fun, they were also there to train - and that includes a 19k mountain bike ride!     After three days of intense training, the team took a well-earned break to look around Barcelona before returning to the water for their last day in Spain. During their stay, the team were looked after by Club Natacio Banyoles and Hotel L’Ast while we sponsored the team and provided some gear for their camp!
